This last Sunday in church we listened to the words of Jesus from Luke's gospel. Jesus makes some very hard demands when he says we must hate our family, give up all our possessions, and take up our cross and follow him in order to be his disciple.
What Jesus is saying here is that he wants us to love him more than anything or anyone. Period. When we love Jesus we will be moved to sacrifice. We will serve others. We will go out of our way.
One of the illustrations Jesus uses is one about a man who who going to build a tower. If he is going to do this successfully he needs to count the cost.
How much does it cost to follow Jesus?
Because God has paid the price for us by sending Jesus to the cross to die and by raising him, we can follow Jesus with confidence.
Peace,
Pastor Durk
