I've been making my way through an incredible book on the life of Albert Einstein. The author, Walter Isaacson, brings to light the fullness of his life and his journey of making huge scientific breakthroughs.
One of Einstein's gifts was to question everything. He never accepted any scientific theory without questioning it, anaylzying it, and attempting to look at the subject of study with new eyes.
Another gift of Einstein was his drive to discover a unifying principle of the universe. Could everything in the universe be connected by a theory? Could a unifying theory answers so many unaswerable questions.
Our Lord, Jesus can gives us the eyes to see everything in a new way. In a fresh, clear, and inspiring manner. And, Jesus is the unifying force of love in our world that is torn apart by violence and war.
Check this book out. It's a great read! Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson.

When Life Crashes
Today as I was driving back to church from an errand, I came across an accident. It looked like a state patrol car has rammed a pick-up truck off the road. Both were perched along a grassy boulevard by a shopping mall.
As I inched by I saw lights flashing from police cars, a wrecker, and a fire truck. There were people everywhere talking, pointing, and gesturing, attemtping to figure out how the accident took place.
In our lives at times we all crash or have accidents, figuratively speaking. When we crash we stop in our tracks to figure out what happen. How did it happen? What took place in my life that precipitated my crash?
Whether we can conduct a thorough investigation or get to the bottm of what happened, we can know that God in Christ is present with us. This is what the cross tells us- God is with us, no matter where we find ourselves.
God's love covers us and is with us whereever we are because of Jesus.

How Much Does It Cost?
This last Sunday in church we listened to the words of Jesus from Luke's gospel. Jesus makes some very hard demands when he says we must hate our family, give up all our possessions, and take up our cross and follow him in order to be his disciple.
What Jesus is saying here is that he wants us to love him more than anything or anyone. Period. When we love Jesus we will be moved to sacrifice. We will serve others. We will go out of our way.
One of the illustrations Jesus uses is one about a man who who going to build a tower. If he is going to do this successfully he needs to count the cost.
How much does it cost to follow Jesus?
Because God has paid the price for us by sending Jesus to the cross to die and by raising him, we can follow Jesus with confidence.
Peace,
Pastor Durk
